AOL's Search Data Disaster

The seven ways that people search the Web. By Paul Boutin - Slate Magazine

AOL's release of millions of search queries onto the web has revealed a lot about how people search, and may be a sign of what's to come. I pity the poor folks who might be hurt by this, and I worry that this same thing might happen to the rest of us before too long. Will this fear change my own search habits? Undoubtedly. Will it create a chill that will discourage people from searching for taboo topics? Perhaps. Will it damage AOL's reputation and encourage greater vigilance over the use of this data? It sure as hell better.
