I love Google Suggest.
Not as a search tool, but as a way to see what people search for. According to Google Suggest, people search for a lot of different things, especially consumer goods, celebrities, political figures, and place names. People ask common questions, and looking at the suggestions can shed some light on the common ones. It's not clear what the algorithm is exactly, but the choices come the terms entered by regular Google users. The number of results come from stored searches or these common terms. It is not clear to what extent the commonality of the search terms is weighted versus the results count.
The insights provided by Google Suggest must be taken in light of this lack of transparency, but the suggestions never fail to be interesting.
