Google Trends: hockey, soccer, football, golf

Google Trends: hockey, soccer, football, golf

This is a nice looking graph, showing some interesting trends in sports. "Football" as a search term is problematic, with a different meaning across the Atlantic.

Adding "fifa" shows some potentially comparable spikes, although this term is much less popular.

What is interesting is that you can drill down on these graphs, by
shuffling out your most popular terms, or the ones that have the largest ranges.

Without "golf".

You can see at these scales that there are detectable trends over time. The relevance of the news references are narrowed as well, and possibly targeted better at the relevant spikes in search volume.

This link shows just "soccer, fifa". Here it is interesting how clearly the graphs are related at some points, and removing "football" increases the definition significantly. It is notable that the new, less-authentic term for football (i.e. soccer) is a better way to compare to the league's search popularity, since it doesn't have the baggage of two distinct meanings.
